Phipps Botanical Gardens is one of the oldest in the country. Each season they thematically decorate and design the flora, often with props and sets to accentuate. In 2010 they did a Gargoyle exhibit and the South Room would be a center piece, focusing on Pittsburgh gargoyles as the design.
Tolin FX was asked to design miniatures of sections of churches in Pittsburgh that would show off the gargoyles. However, in miniature the gargoyles would be very small, so Steve devised and design utilizing force perspective to better illustrate the gargoyles. The building were designed by Tolin and constructed by Phipps staff. The gargoyles were all sculpted and cast by Tolin FX. All of the painting and finishing was also done by Tolin FX.
